Bangalore is one of the few cities in India which has an assured piped water supply
system for over 100 years. After the formation of Bangalore Water Supply and
Sewerage Board in 1964, long term solution to meet the ever increasing water
demand was planned and the Perennial River Cauvery was tapped for the first time
as drinking water source by taking up the cauvery Water Supply Scheme First
Stage project in the year 1969.
