Current Projects

Reduction of Unaccounted for Water including Water Audit

The scheme envisages procurement of leak detection equipments, Ultrasonic (portable) flow meters and creating a cell for identification of leaks in the system for the reduction of unaccounted for water including reviewing the water production
and distribution records at an approximate cost of Rs.400 Crores.
A division has been created led by a project Manager and assisted by 2 AEE in the execution of projects. Rs 4000 million project has been contemplated for the city to check unaccounted for water and control didtribution losses with JBIC assistance. This project has been lanuched on 5.6.2003 in a pilot arear comprising 5 service station arears with 40,000 connections at a cost of Rs.480 Million Funded by JBIC.
Integrated Water Management to meet Additional Needs of Bangalore
The proposal is for making a comprehensive study for water quantity and quality of the whole water cycle of rainfall, surface water, ground water in Bangalore for a hydrological cycle of 12 months so as to assess various degrees of pollution and vulnerability of water resources for futuristic water mangement to meet the additional needs of Bangalore. The studies are proposed to be taken up at an approximate cost of Rs.25 crores.
Rain Water Harvesting
As a part of long term strategy to meet the additional demands for potable water, BWSSB is looking towards various alternatives for augmenting the supplies. In this direction, BWSSB is considering recycling of waste water and also harvesting rain water run off.
Initially it is proposed to remodel the existing sewerage system to stop the flow of sewerage into storm water drains and simultaneously rehabilitate major storm water drains in collaboration with BMP for diversion of rainfall run off into the lakes in and around the city and then treat the collected water for both potable/non-potable use. In this regard BWSSB has entrusted consultancy work to Tata Consulting Engineers.
Rehabilitation of GLRs in Bangalore
The scheme envisages rehabilitation of old and dilapitated GLRs which were constructed prior to 1940 by way of replacing damaged roofs and strengthening side walls, carrying out minor repairs to floors, etc.
Replacement of Corroded pipes in the City
In order to improve Water supply infrastructure and to ensure minimum residual pressure at consumer point, besides elimination of water contamination, there is a need to change the encrusted/corroded pipes. The scheme envisages replacement of very old corroded water supply lines of 2'' to 3'' dia. which were laid 50-60 years back in phases at a cost of Rs.10 crores.
Electricity generation using methane gas from the digestor of sewage treatment plants with the assistance of Ministry of Non Conventional Energy
The scheme envisages the feasibility study of approximately 1 MW electricity through bio gas generated in the digestors at K&C valley with the technical know how from IISc and national bio energy board with 50% financial assistance from the ministry of non-conventional energy, Government of India and balance from Government of Karnataka. An MOU is signed by the concerned parties.
 
Providing Water Supply Facilities to M/s I.T.P.L.
The work of laying 600mm dia. CI pipeline from Krishnarajapuram to M/s. ITPL has been completed and water is being supplied to them on regular basis.
Rehabilitation of Sewerage Network in and around Bangalore City
The Board has proposed to take up rehabilitation of sewerage network in & around city of Bangalore at an estimated cost of Rs 4800 Lakhs.Under National River conservation plan, the project has the approval of GOI/GOK is under implementation in V.Valley, Koramangala Challaghatta valleys
